There are several remedies for a civil lawsuit, and one of them is recovering damages. Unlike in the justice system where the one in the wrong is given specific punishments by the state, in a civil litigation, it’s all about compensating for the losses that the victim has sustained.
Some of these damages include:
- Current and future medical expenses
- Loss of income/earnings
- Property damage
- Pain and suffering
- Refund or reimbursement for any incurred losses due to breach of contract
If the accident or wrongful behavior has caused the death of a loved one, the surviving family may also seek damages for funeral costs, loss of companionship and love, and loss of consortium for the decedent’s spouse.
